Surgery Consultation Update

This morning we met with Justin’s surgeon in Plano and got a much better picture of what our next few months are going to look like. Justin will be having surgery sometime in November. The scheduler was out today, so we don’t have an exact date yet. This will allow time for his defibrillator to be fully healed before going into another operation. In the meantime, we will be scheduling an appointment with the HCM clinic at the Heart Hospital in Plano to manage his condition with medication in the meantime. When we come for that appointment, Justin will also have a CT done to verify if he is a good candidate for a robotic approach versus the traditional open heart procedure. The surgeon seemed optimistic that Justin would be a good candidate for a less invasive method. After surgery, regardless of method, we have been told to expect Justin to be in the hospital in Texas for 4-6 days following surgery. Full recovery will take 6 months after the surgery, with most follow up care being able to be done from Oklahoma City. The surgeon said that assuming all goes well in the procedure he had no indicators to believe Justin would require additional surgery down the line. Justin will likely keep his defibrillator for the rest of his life due to continued risk of arrhythmia.

We are feeling good about the surgeon and hospital and have peace about our plan going forward. We are disappointed that some fall plans will need to be cancelled (RIP to our Macy’s Parade plans), but the good news is that trips can always be planned later on once Justin is healthy. We appreciate everyone who has continued to pray for us and reach out with encouragement. We are feeling blessed with our support system and thankful that we feel Justin is getting the best care possible. We love you all. 💜
