Joy Brown and Family
Well… we were all played for fools. What we thought was excellent pain management was actually an illusion caused by the numbness from anesthesia not fully wearing off yet. By the time it was done, boy did it get rough. Joy is on 3 different kinds of pain meds and it’s still not enough. Her day nurse got behind on administering her meds (don’t get me started…) so we spent most of the evening trying to play catch up to get Joy to anything resembling a calm state. She did have a few minutes where she was mildly happy and eagerly drank milk from an open cup, but being that her pain wasn’t under control, it didn’t last long and she only took in about half an ounce. A doctor should be by soon to get Joy hooked up on IV fluids overnight so she doesn’t dehydrate. Tonight (and tomorrow) the goal is to get her pain better managed so that we can start working on getting her eating. It’s been heartbreaking to see little pockets of playful Joy appear- wanting to play with a toy or trying to stand up in my lap- just to see her vanish within a matter of minutes. I’m hoping and praying tomorrow things will get better, but in the meantime I’m preparing for a long night ahead.
