DAY 34- HOME SWEET HOME

Hi everyone! I am thrilled to report that after 34 days in the hospital (and 6 different patient rooms), Jonathan was finally able to come home yesterday!

But not before we thanked all the night shift and day shift staff with cakes for all of their amazing care and help! And in return, they all lined up to cheer and gave Jonathan an awesome and touching send-off!

Jonathan was surprised to come home to banners from his office - a huge welcome home sign and a super neat and clean home - all thanks to so many amazing friends ( Emily, Stacy and Jill). Then he was able to enjoy a delicious steak dinner compliments of our friend Bryan Coleman and couldn’t have been more thrilled to not have to eat another hospital meal!!! And the cherry on top was that we were able to have a quick chat with Darrah at camp to let her know that he was finally home.

After easily walking up the 15 stairs to the bedroom, he was so thankful to sleep in our comfy Tempur-pedic bed, especially since he did not get even a single semi-decent night’s sleep in the hospital.

We had a lengthy first day of our “new normal”. It took us almost 3 hours to get out of the house for his first BMT clinic appointment this morning, as we navigated temperature checks, blood pressure checks, showering in our TINY shower using a bench, making sure he was taking all the right meds, putting on lymphedema wraps on his legs, packing his walker in the car, etc.

He will be going to the BMT clinic multiple days for the next two weeks before he starts his chemo treatments again on June 30 (Mon-Fri for 4 weeks). We are also trying to keep track of all of his other follow-up appointments coming up in the next couple of weeks for CT scans,  cardiology, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, PT and OT.

Over the weekend, we will be determining additional help that we need, including meals, rides to and from appointments, help at the house, etc. and will add it all to this site.

Additionally, I will be posting another update soon with details about how people can donate platelets to Atlanta Blood Services. Jonathan would not have been alive had it not been for all of the platelet transfusions he received every day while in the hospital- so please keep an eye out for that and consider donating.

Thank you for all your prayers, cheers, love and generous support! It truly kept us all going and kept Jonathan fighting. Seriously, our whole family is beyond grateful for each of you.

Love Alli
