Jonathan Agin
Thank you so much for your kind offer to provide a meal for Jonathan and Alli during this time. They have been spending a lot of time at doctor's appointments, so many times when they get home, they are a little too tired to cook. Your support truly means the world to them, and they are incredibly grateful for your care and thoughtfulness.
RESTAURANTS: They have been able to confirm with their doctors that they are able to have food from a few safe restaurants for those that would prefer to order from a restaurant rather than cook.
Some of those include:

MAKING MEALS:
Because of Jonathan’s cancer treatment, he is immunocompromised, and he also has Type 1 diabetes. Alli also has a severe gluten intolerance, so there are a few important food guidelines to follow to keep them safe and healthy.
IMPORTANT FOOD SAFETY GUIDELINES:
Per Jonathan’s doctors, please follow these precautions when making meals:
- Use separate cutting boards for raw meat and fruits/vegetables
- Cook all meat to well-done
- Refrigerate food within 2 hours after cooking
- Wash all produce and fresh herbs thoroughly
- NO LETTUCE, LEAFY GREENS or CABBAGE ALLOWED
- No Fresh Herbs on food after it has been cooked (i.e. garnish)
- Use bottled water when water is needed (except when boiling)
- Avoid store-prepared foods (hot/cold bar items, chicken salad, mayo-based salads, etc.)
- No deli meats, pork, shellfish, raw eggs, raw honey
- Salsa must be from a shelf-stable jar, not fresh
- All eggs must be fully cooked (no farm-fresh eggs)
- NO SPICY FOODS
DAIRY RULES:
- Only commercially packaged cheeses (no deli counter items)
- Only pasteurized hard/semi-soft cheeses (cheddar, mozzarella, parmesan, etc.)
- Yogurt and other dairy must be pasteurized, with no active cultures
GLUTEN-FREE COOKING:
Making a gluten-free (GF) meal is appreciated but NOT REQUIRED. If your meal isn’t GF, please just include a quick note so they know.
If you do make something GF:
- Please remember not to use the same utensils or place GF food in the same container as non-GF food.
- Feel free to use GF sauces, pasta, flour, etc. (they are readily available and usually say it on the bottle)
- If using soy sauce, bread crumbs, wheat flour, or regular pasta, please mention it
- If you're unsure if it’s GF, just say so—it’s totally okay!
SOME OF JONATHAN'S FAVORITE MEALS INCLUDE:
- CHICKEN: BBQ, roasted, sesame, quesadillas, chicken parm, burgers
- TURKEY: Meatloaf, burgers, roasted turkey breast, nachos
- BEEF: Flank steak, brisket, lamb, veal parm, burgers
- FISH: Grouper, halibut, snapper, trout
- PASTA: Spaghetti & meatballs, baked ziti
- SIDES: Brown rice, sweet potatoes (all kinds), roasted mini potatoes, garlic bread
- VEGGIES: Broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, zucchini, squash, carrots (in dishes)
(NOTE: Jonathan isn’t really a fan of stews, soups, quiche, or bell peppers:-)
We know this is a lot of information, and they deeply appreciate your flexibility, love, and support. If you’re ever unsure about something, please don’t hesitate to text Alli. She’s happy to help or answer any questions!
FOR DUNWOODY FRIENDS: If it’s easier to cook but not travel to East Cobb, you can coordinate with Jonathan’s sister, Lori, at 770-458-5599.
Thank you again for your generosity and kindness. It makes such a difference in their lives right now.
