Day 29 update:

It’s been another long and challenging week for Joe and Greta, with both progress and some unexpected hurdles along the way.

Daily wound care continues, and treatment for the infection at the grafting site is ongoing. Thankfully, the infection is showing improvement. The harvest site on Joe’s right thigh is doing very well, and as of today, it no longer needs to be wrapped and has been left open. This is a wonderful sign of progress!

Joe continues with physical therapy to help ensure proper skin stretching and mobility. He and Greta have been taking walks through the hospital halls, and they even had the opportunity to get outside for a few minutes of fresh air. Every bit of progress is worth celebrating!

Unfortunately, last weekend brought an unexpected new concern when blood was found in Joe’s urine. An ultrasound was performed to help determine the cause and uncovered an unrelated mass in his bladder. Following an MRI, surgery was scheduled, and the tumor was successfully removed, and his medical team is working on a treatment plan for this new diagnosis.

This unexpected diagnosis has created another hurdle and added yet another layer of complexity to an already incredibly difficult journey for Joe.
