Prayers for Jenevieve – Surgery Tomorrow

Tomorrow our miracle girl heads to Cook Children’s for a procedure to check for structural issues in her airway. A few weeks ago, her feeding therapist noticed Jena was choking on liquids. We had seen it too, but assumed it was posture or drinking too fast.

The therapist dug deeper into her history and referred her for a swallow study. That test revealed severe aspiration — meaning liquids were going into her lungs instead of her stomach. Because Jena has cerebral palsy, this puts her at high risk for aspiration pneumonia — something we’re just beginning to understand, including the possibility of silent aspiration, which is quite dangerous.

She was immediately referred to ENT, and now we’re headed into surgery to look for structural causes like a laryngeal cleft. If they find something, they may be able to fix it with a stitch or steroid injection — and she might not need thickened liquids forever. If not, we’ll revisit her hydration plan, since she’s currently refusing thickened fluids. The biggest concern is dehydration, which could mean a G-tube — something we’re praying to avoid.

🙏 Prayer Requests

  • That the cause is simple and fixable

  • That Jena finds a way to accept thickened liquids

  • That she has no reaction to anesthesia

  • That her airway heals completely

  • That mom and dad feel peace and strength

  • That her care team is guided with wisdom and clarity

  • Our other kids are completely cared for and at peace at home

We know God has big plans for our miracle girl. Thank you for walking this journey with us and supporting us.
