Jazmyne's Promise
Day 15 9pm-Jazmyne oxygen level had dropped to 87. Normal is above 95. Greg spent the night with her at bedside holding the oxygen mask near her face.
Day 16-Ultra sound determined that Jazmyne liver is enlarged which is causing pressure to her intestines along with retaining fluid making her feel and look like she is her 3rd trimester. Now mamas do you recall how uncomfortable your 3rd trimeters was now add all of the other symptoms Jazmyne is having. If symptoms persist without improvement would have to be transferred to ICU for treatment.
Day 17-we all woke up well rested to blood lab results noting bilirubin levels had dropped (concern from early Day 15). Liver still enlarged, abdomen still swollen BUT ANC and WBC made a very early appearance.
Didn’t think I would to explain the importance of ANC and WBC until Day 24.
ANC (Absolute Neutrophil Count) are blood test measuring the number of neutrophils (infection-fighting white blood cells) to determine infection risk, especially during cancer treatment. Its purpose is to measures the immune system's ability to fight infection. Normal is above 1500. WBC (white blood cells/count) is referring to the cells in your blood that fight infections. These cells purpose is to protect the body against infections, viruses, bacteria and foreign substances. Normal range 4.5-11.Chemotherapy suppresses both ANC and WBC to 0.
ANC and WBC don’t start appearing typically until day 24-27 in the transplant stage. We are on day 17 and both made a very early beautiful appearance today. Usually when they start to appear its very little maybe ANC of 1 and would stay there for days to weeks and fluctuate without WBC. But for both to appear at the simultaneously and at HIGH levels…that’s defiantly worth giving God praise for!!!
Jazmyne ANC today was at 99 and WBC was at .43 (queue in “Only God Can Do It” praise break song running through my head)
Day 15 at 9:00pm-I had already left the hospital for night when Greg informed me that Jazmyne vitals were concerning. I’ve never had a problem retreating to my room and interceding through the night while Greg stayed at Jazmyne’s bedside..because that’s what I’ve done before. That’s what I know how to do.But this time, I knew my tank was starting to run empty.
We have all been sleep deprived. We haven’t been eating. The weight of constant stress has been pressing in on every side. The perfect trifecta for the enemy to try and slip in..through exhaustion, through isolation, through overwhelm. And I could feel it. There was no time to sit in the circumstances, no time to process emotions, no time to quietly carry it alone. This was not a moment to sit and wallow. This was battle time.
So I did the hard thing. I reached out. I asked for help. It took a lot for me to reach out to our prayer warriors at 10pm and ask for urgent prayer. That is not something I do lightly.
I called in our personal, trusted prayer warriors—the ones who know how to fight, the ones who don’t panic, the ones who know how to take a burden straight to the feet of Jesus.
And that is something we cannot emphasize enough: the importance of surrounding yourself with friends who will fight for you and with you.
Friends who will intercede when your strength is fading. Friends who will pray when you don’t even have the words left. Friends who understand that spiritual battles require spiritual weapons, and that prayer is not passive—it is powerful.
There are seasons when your own faith carries you. And then there are seasons when God, in His mercy, allows the faith of others to carry you. This was one of those moments. And I am deeply grateful for the warriors God has placed around us..those willing to stand in the gap when the night feels long and the battle feels heavy.
One of the most tender examples I love is found in Mark 2:3–5, when friends carried a paralyzed man to Jesus. When they couldn’t reach Him, they tore open the roof and lowered their friend down. Scripture says:
“When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, ‘Son, your sins are forgiven.’”
Sometimes it is not our faith that carries us..it is the faith of the friends who pray relentlessly, refuse to give up, and will do whatever it takes to place us at the feet of Jesus.
Friends who pray for you are spiritual armor. They guard you when you’re vulnerable, fight battles you may not even see, and remind heaven of God’s promises over your life. Their prayers become a lifeline..steady, faithful, and powerful.
This is why we give thanks for friends who don’t just say, “I’m here,” but prove it by standing in the gap for us…lifting us up when we are too weary to lift ourselves..
We were never meant to fight alone.
