G-Tube: September 3rd

We had an informative consult recently with a general surgeon regarding the placement of a G-tube for Harrison. I joked that I’ve basically turned into a cafeteria lady since all I do is feed him, but this will be such a huge step forward for Harrison and all of his specialists agree. The G-tube will not only make life easier as we care for him, but it will also help him better tolerate feeds and, best of all, he’ll finally be free of the tube and tape on his face! The surgeon provided words of comfort for us, as this is still a big decision (and risk). He mentioned that no one who has had a G-tube has regretted it, and we believe that will be true for us with Harrison. 🎉

Surgery is scheduled for September 3rd at Arthur Blank. Before then, we’ll have a radiology appointment and an anesthesia consult to prepare. After surgery, Harrison will stay inpatient in the cardiac unit for 2–3 days for observation and so we can work through his feeds to figure out the right volume, timing, and application before we bring him home.

We would love prayers for Harrison, his surgeon Dr. Carney, the cardiac anesthesia staff, and the entire medical team who will be caring for him on September 3rd and the following days. If you feel inclined, we suggest adding the date to your calendar as a reminder to pray! I will update our site as information becomes available and be adding specific needs for our family. I plan to be with Harrison full-time during and after surgery, and Tate will be working from home while caring for Teddy.

Thank you for continuing to walk alongside us in this journey. We are so grateful and do not take your kindness for granted. 💙
