Harper's Recovery
Harper’s surgery went well this afternoon. The abdominal mass that was removed was a Wilms tumor, as expected. It will now be sent out for additional genetic testing to determine whether her treatment plan will need to be adjusted.
We also learned that the clinical trial she was supposed to start has closed, but she can still follow the protocol. This gives her oncologists a bit more flexibility. With that added flexibility, they decided to admit her, and if she continues to do well, she will begin chemo tomorrow. The plan is for ten 3-week cycles of tough inpatient chemo, with the first 3–5 days of each cycle spent in the hospital. Three of the medications are ones she’s had before, and two will be new.
After a few cycles, we’ll re-scan. If her liver mass shows improvement, it should be safer to go in and debulk it. After that, we can move forward with radiation.
It’s helpful to finally have a clearer picture of what lies ahead—but wow, another 30+ weeks of this feels incredibly daunting.
Thank you for being here with us for the long haul. Our girl continues to prove what a little champ she is. 💜 Raise it for Harper.
