Harper's Recovery
Yesterday started out as such a good day for Harper. Her energy was up, she played, and she didn’t even need a nap. Then, right at bedtime, she spiked a fever 🫠.
We brought her to the Emergency Department where we learned her hemoglobin had dropped to 6.3. She was admitted for IV antibiotics and a blood transfusion.
Thankfully, all viral testing came back negative, and her white blood cell count is starting to improve. Her platelets, however, have barely budged, which makes chemotherapy this week unlikely.
Her oncologist is already working through next steps. They plan to check Harper’s IgG levels to see if she may benefit from an IVIG infusion to help support her immune system. He also wants to switch her upcoming Cycle 3 chemo to Cycle 2 instead—one she hasn’t had yet and that is less likely to severely drop her platelets. He’s also comfortable proceeding if her platelets reach 50 instead of the usual 75.
We’ll go back in on Wednesday for another count check, and possibly an admission if her platelets rebound (fingers crossed 🤞).
This continues to feel incredibly daunting. We want Harper’s body to recover, but we also want to make sure she gets the chemotherapy she needs to fight this cancer.
I’ll be sure to share another update on Wednesday. Thank you, as always, for supporting and loving our girl.
