Harper's Recovery
We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.
Harper ended up in the emergency department on Christmas morning. She woke up with bleeding gums, and when we took her in we learned her platelets were down to 2. We were incredibly fortunate that one of her oncology nurses was floating in the ED and took such wonderful care of her. We were able to get her platelets and make it home by noon.
Later that day, Harper’s hair started falling out again, and she didn’t really perk up until the evening—but we made the best of it. We shaved her head and brought back her Eleven costume in honor of the Stranger Things premiere. She makes an excellent Eleven.
To end the night on a bright note, one of our sweet neighbors gifted us a ticket to drive through the Christmas lights near our house. We went, and Harper absolutely loved it.
Today we took Harper in for a count-dependent admission. While her platelets did improve, they weren’t quite high enough to start this next chemo cycle, so we’ll try again next week.
While we’re grateful for an extra week of her feeling better, it’s exhausting to plan, pack for an admission, and emotionally prepare—only for it not to work out and to have to do it all over again.
We’re doing our best to stay positive and are so grateful for the continued love, prayers, and support surrounding our family.
