One of my doctors here in Florida was kind enough to tell me last week that most people who have this type of cancer won’t make it through the first year. I didn’t exactly know how to take that…but it really did remind me of The Lord’s grace, the power of prayer and the reality of God’s healing. We are a few weeks out from the one-year mark, and it's causing me to reflect on what Joannie and I have learned so far on this journey.
- Community is priceless.
Our family, friends, and church have all demonstrated the compassion of Jesus.
- Prayer becomes much more than a box on a “to do” list.
Moving from a simple “now I lay me down to sleep…” to a very real plea for God’s help.
- Belief and Trust have found their home deep in our souls.
The information we hear or read ultimately doesn’t shipwreck our spirits, because we know that we know, God is in control and His will…will bring the most glory.
- The importance of our marriage vows. We like each other…a lot.
Every day, that has turned into weeks, months and now almost a year, has been the reminder, marriage is beautiful. We know the circumstances and so many prayers are confirming our love, but we believe this is the way God meant marriage to be. Loving each other unconditionally. Being patient with the other (as so much of how we have done marriage to this point has needed to be adjusted.) Enjoying the moments, whether going to a new doctor's appointment, the hours we drive together or the unexpected decision to go to the movies.
- Crying is good for the soul.
Crying expresses pain and sadness but it also expresses joy and gratitude.

In the past few weeks, Greg has had additional MRI’s on his knee, cervical spine and shoulder. Greg’s knee does have some issues and he has some tears in his shoulder, but there is no evidence of cancer or needing surgery. He has also had some medication changes and we are optimistic these new medicines may relieve other symptoms.
We will once again travel to Durham for the MRI’s on Greg’s brain and consultation with the specialist. He will begin his ninth cycle of chemotherapy in the middle of August.

Though we don’t know what the next Doctor will say, we do know what The Great Physician has already said ….
“My God will supply all your needs according to HIS riches in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4: 19
“The Lord is Good, a haven in a day of distress. He acknowledges those who take refuge in Him.” Nahum 1: 7
“...But I will hope continually, and will praise You yet more and more.” Psalm 71: 14
“I am sure of this - that He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1: 6
Now it’s your turn…if YOU have a favorite verse about the nature and character of God or a verse on healing, let that be your response in the comments section! This will be what we need to hear from the Good Physician through you! Our love and appreciation to each of you!
