We moved to Shepherd Center today and it was harder than any of us imagined it would be. After being at CHOA (brand new campus less than 2 years old) everything here feels dark and dreary. Please don’t get me wrong, we are so thankful to be here. But today was hard.

Reality started to set in for Gabe and all 3 of us were just broken tonight.

We reminded him this will be a long journey and we have to just take 1 day at a time. Anything else is too overwhelming. We reminded him that tomorrow is a new day and the fight begins.

Psalm 147:3 – "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."

Gabe, as you begin rehab, remember that every effort matters and every small victory is a step forward. Some days may be harder than others, but keep showing up, working hard, and believing in yourself. Do not let a difficult day convince you that progress is not happening. You are stronger than you realize, and you have so many people praying for you and cheering you on. Take it one day and one goal at a time. Trust God, trust the process, and never give up. My only thought about the long road is I’ve heard a couple of Christian songs recently on the radio that talk about the value of the long road...in the long run. We trust that for you all. But God willing it can be shorter than you’re thinking it might be now. Shabbat shalom

Gabe, just after I turned 16 I became paralyzed from the waist down and found myself sitting in a wheelchair being told by doctors that I would spend the rest of my life there IF I didn’t die on the operating table. The odds were 60% that I’d die on the table. I remember thinking, “I just don’t believe a good God wants a 16 year old to spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair.” So I decided to do whatever it took to “walk again; dance again; and play baseball again.” Surviving the operation, I spent months in the hospital learning how to walk again. I had to be bulldog determined, because the therapists didn’t believe I’d ever walk again—and didn’t hesitate to tell me so. Cutting to the end of the story, I’m now 66 and have spent the last 50 years walking, dancing, raising a family, and even played softball along the way. All Glory to God!! Listen, Isaiah 41:13 says, “For I, Adonai, your God say to you, as I hold your right hand, FEAR NOT; I WILL HELP YOU.” You are not alone. He will walk with you in this journey to recovery, but you have a huge part to play. It will probably involve time, sweat, pain, and occasional discouragement….but just as David often did, encourage yourself in God; His goodness, His love, and remember the plan He wrote for your life. This season will forever mark your life in strength, endurance, and faith. My husband and I will stand with you in prayer.
