Empowering Elijah
Following so many children with disabilities similar to Elijah’s has opened our eyes to what is possible. We’ve watched families share their journeys through NAPA and other intensive therapies and we’ve seen children make incredible progress. Every child’s story is different and every family prays for different outcomes but seeing those victories gives us hope.
Getting the opportunity to visit NAPA in Austin was emotional in a way I can’t fully explain. It was heartbreaking, hopeful, and somehow felt like a dream come true all at once.
When you become a medical grandparent your dreams for your grandchild change.
Of course I wish Elijah could roll, crawl, sit independently, eat on his own, and do so many of the things other children his age are doing. I wish I could change what happened to him. I would give anything to make that possible.
But I can’t change the past.
What I can do is keep praying. Keep believing. Keep fighting, and keep placing Elijah in every environment that gives his brain and body the opportunity to grow stronger.
Our goal has never been to simply accept that Elijah is COMFORTABLE and stop there. Comfort matters but so does all the possibility.
We want to give him every opportunity available to him. Every therapy. Every resource. Every chance to build strength, create new connections, gain independence, and experience the best quality of life possible.
We will celebrate the smallest victories because in our world they are anything but small, and we will never place a limit on what Elijah may be capable of doing.
We will do our part to continue to fight for him and trust God with the rest.💚🦖
