Deana's Cancer Journey
The teacher in me will always be there. I had a phone call from Mayo. A little back story, when I made my profile there was a place where I could put a nickname so I put Deena because people always say my name as DeAnna. They asked to verify my name and when I finished she asked me why did I put Deena in the nickname. I explained why and added that most people don't remember the male version is Dean and if you put an a on it, that's why my mom chose that spelling or that the ea is a vowel team. She asked me what does that mean.....in a vowel team the second letter is silent and the first letter says it's name. She started laughing and asked me if I'm a teacher. I told her yes.
Even though I sent the resignation email this morning I will always be a teacher. The people I have worked with have made me a better person and teacher. This profession is one that we really do help each other in so many ways. The school I worked for is amazing, every single person from the principal to the office, to psychologists, social worker, resources teachers, to the teachers to the paras, cafeteria, custodians, students, and parents have been so supportive of me. Whether it was a smile, hug, prayers, words of encouragement, donation, or an invitation to dinner. They make that place so wonderful for the kids. I have to add my first school Houston was also amazing I love that I am in contact with many of them, not as often as I would like but I understand they are busy with life too. What a fabulous chapter I pray I get to write again.
I am thankful for technology. I woke up on Friday with a rash. I took a picture and sent it to my care team and they responded with a picture of what I could buy over the counter. Whew I sure didn't want to drive an hour one way just to be told something simple. The nausea is still really bad this go around. I would say it is worse than when I was constantly nauseated when I was pregnant with Dana and Monica. Zofran and Compazine are my friends! They don't take away the acidity so that's where Tums comes in. The dr did prescribe pantoprazole but after day 2 of taking it I don't digest food well so I stopped taking it.
That wave of nausea is back so I better get off of here. Thank you for your support. Love to you all!
