I met today with my local team at UC Health so they could approve the Avastin and we can move forward in the process to getting my next MRI & getting much needed clarity.

The lightheadedness I’ve been experiencing daily is difficult to describe, but my doctor recommended I focus on hydration, protein intake, and wearing compression socks at night. My doctor does not believe it is related to the tumor itself and thinks it is more likely a side effect of treatment.

Because imaging is showing increased blood flow (which we knew from our visit at Duke), it’s difficult to determine whether what we’re seeing is tumor growth or a treatment effect at this point.

The medication, Avastin, is an infusion that works by targeting the blood vessels that feed tumors. Because of this, there can be side effects so it’s especially important to stay healthy and be mindful of any symptoms.

I signed the consent forms and the request was submitted for insurance approval, and now we wait. Once approval comes through, scheduling will contact us to set up the infusion appointment. We’re hopeful we can get started this week.

Our mantra remains the same: positive vibes and prayers (focus those on this being a quick approval process please!), community (that’s you!), and modern medicine (Duke AND UC Health), and now, we add in taking things one step at a time.

More to come but Dana Strong. Stein Strong. 💪

Dana, Josh and Family, You are taking the right approach and ways to deal with what you’ve been dealt. As you know, our family went through this 18 years ago. We’re sending positive thoughts and prayers your way. Love, Candy Figa
