An update on Dana’s journey in our continued fight against Grade 4 Glioblastoma.

What was expected to be a routine follow-up appointment at Duke turned into a more serious conversation than we anticipated. During Dana’s latest MRI review - something that typically happens every two months - the team noticed a change that requires closer monitoring.

The MRI showed a couple of areas of contrast enhancement that could represent one of two things: post-treatment inflammation or new tumor progression. At this point, the doctors cannot definitively determine which it is.

To help clarify what’s happening, Dana’s team has recommended two infusions of Avastin, a monoclonal antibody treatment often used to reduce inflammation and swelling in the brain. After completing these treatments, she will return to Duke mid-July for another MRI. The results of that scan should provide a much clearer answer and help determine the next steps in her treatment journey.

While waiting is never easy, we are holding tightly to hope. Our local UCHealth team in Colorado believes this is more likely to be a post-treatment effect rather than tumor progression. We’ve also connected with another patient participating in the same clinical trial, and she experienced this exact situation - what initially appeared concerning on MRI ultimately turned out to be treatment-related inflammation.

Today, as you can see in the photo, Dana received the first of her two Avastin infusions, and we’re already putting the plan into action.

As always, Dana continues to face every challenge with incredible strength, courage, and grace. She’s a true trooper.

We appreciate every prayer, message, and act of support as we navigate this period of uncertainty. For now, we wait, we hope, and we keep fighting - one step at a time.
