Shunt Complications

This boy sure keeps us on our toes and this week was no different, with an unexpected emergency trip to the children’s hospital.

On 9/12 he had a brain MRI to check his shunt function. Since then, he’s just seemed “off”. Being extra fussy, drowsy, and getting worse by the day... to the point he was unconsolable. Then he had a massive seizure that lasted 14 minutes which is FAR too long.

My mama intuition told me something wasn’t right, but I couldn’t put my finger on it. Then came a God-wink moment, reminding me of previous shunt adjustments, which prompted an urgent phone call to his surgeon. And sure enough, his shunt setting was off.

So before the sun even rose on Tuesday morning, we packed him up and drove three hours one way to the children’s hospital. Thankfully, it was a quick adjustment this time, and we’re already seeing relief in our sweet boy.

Now we’re back home. Mama is drained, overstimulated, and running on fumes… but overwhelmingly grateful it wasn’t something worse. We've spent the week resting, and are hopeful by the beginning of next week he was be fully back to his normal self!

We also got some news yesterday regarding some services he receives from the state, that will be stopped because we are leaving the state for his 2 week intensive. He will get them back when we return, but it will cause a financial burden while he is without them. So next week, it is back to tackling that, finalizing lodging (it's very expensive out there) and returning calls to the stem cell tx facilities.

Please continue to keep us all in your prayers! And please continue to share our page and our story so that we can get closer to our goal to provide these extra treatments!!! We appreciate you!!!
