Do not let Covey’s sweet and tender disposition fool you—he LOVES throwing curve balls, giving us whiplash, and keeping everybody on their toes.

A few days ago, his team noticed twitching-like movement in his eyes and consulted ophthalmology. Ophtho noted scarring on the back of his left eye, which could be impacting his vision. There’s a whole work up that they do including mri, blood work up for congenital infections, and an in depth eye exam hopefully next week when he can visit the office.

As if the scarring on his eye wasn’t enough added excitement, his blood work came back showing he was having an immune response to rubella. Rubella barely even exists in the United States anymore (~10 cases a year), our family is fully vaccinated, and we haven’t had any international visitors. Also, he has had no symptoms of rubella whatsoever. The likelihood of it being a false positive is extremely high, but they have to do the whole work up just to be sure. Infection control and the department of health had to be notified and a work up was done and sent off to a specialized lab for rapid testing.

Covey was supposed to be transferred to the rehabilitation hospital this morning (3/19), but unfortunately they had to give his bed to a returning patient. We are waiting to hear back from the rehab director, so hopefully he is able to be moved on Friday (3/20).

Just another day in the life. 🤪

In other, bittersweet, news, it appears Covey is getting too tall for newborn jammies. 🥲
