Cody's Comeback
I’m not going to sugarcoat this, yesterday was a brutal day. Truly one of the hardest we have ever lived through.
This part of transplant is something no one can fully prepare you for. During these days, the chemo has done its job clearing out old cells, but the new stem cells have not fully taken over yet. That space in between is where things get very intense.
Cody’s body is working so hard. His skin is sloughing, which is a known effect of the chemotherapy on rapidly dividing cells. His GI tract is also sloughing, and he is vomiting what his body is shedding. We are having to suction him every 5-10 minutes. It is heartbreaking to witness. There is simply no way to describe what it feels like to watch your child go through this.
No amount of reading, planning, or preparation can prepare you for seeing your child in the middle of transplant.
But today… we are seeing small signs of a turn.
And in this process, small signs are everything.
And in this process, small signs are everything.
Today Cody:
• Ate a few bites of Jello
• Took sips of apple juice
• Licked a popsicle

His mucositis is slowing down.
His itching is improving.
And his team believes his symptoms may begin easing before we even see full cell engraftment, which is exactly what we are hoping for.

We are praying his new cells begin to come in later this week. Once his counts rise, healing accelerates. That is the milestone we are waiting for.
This has been the most horrific thing we have ever walked through. But we are here. Cody is here. And his strength continues to amaze every single person caring for him.
To everyone who has prayed, sent messages, dropped meals, donated, or simply held us in their hearts, thank you. We feel it. We need it. And we are deeply grateful.
Please keep praying. We believe prayer matters. We believe healing is possible. And we believe God is holding Cody through every moment we cannot.
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18
With love and gratitude,

Jesus is a rescuer. He has died for our healing and our salvation. That’s why we honor him with our communion bread and juice. In rememberance of what he did for us and the healing of our bodies and forgiveness of our sins.
We are to cast out any unclean spirits that are attacking Cody by the power and authority of Jesus Christ. Amen.
