Better than a pillow fort!

That isn’t a sheet and Christyna is fine! It’s a blanket, and I was given permission to “toss” the fabric. Naturally, I did the most inconvenient thing I could think of- cover Christyna from head to toe without tossing any fabric! To my chagrin, Christyna starts giggling and says, “This is better than a pillow fort! I’m secure!” I’m failing at being annoying. Oh well, practice makes perfect, right?

On the eve of 4 weeks since the removal of the cancer, d-flap surgery, keeping tons of data, and in the presence of love, we are back in the hospital. Don’t worry! We are here for tests and preparations for the next stage of Christyna’s recovery and rejuvenation. Right now, Christyna is getting an ultrasound. You may be crying out, “An ultrasound!? Ryan, what did you do to poor Christyna!?!?” Well, I didn’t do THAT! This is a hospital, they use the ultrasound for more than pregnancy. Jeez! Get your head back in this treatment…

Christyna has 3 appointments for tests today. There is an ultrasound, and EKG, and something else. I’m bad at keeping track of all the tests, so please forgive me. I am really good at keeping Christyna empowered and all y’all informed. This is all in preparation for the hyperbaric chamber. We are doing all of this for the 5 weeks of daily hyperbaric chamber treatment. Plan first, or as I keep saying to Christyna, “pain now, reward later.”

<12 minute time shift into the future! I took a break, but you don’t have to. First 2 tests are complete, not we have 75 minutes to the next one. Feel free to keep reading.>

Hurry up and wait! Houston Methodist West is too damn efficient and great! They are too friendly, too. Every single person is fabulous, even the delivery drivers. I’m torn between supporting the brilliantness and sowing chaos. I guess I’ll keep the engines of healing and service going. The angel on my shoulder wins the fight today. Stupid angel.

I’m gonna cajole Christyna into a walk. She is doing great. She got dressed all by herself this morning while I was at my appointment. The next big phase is the 5-weeks of hyperbaric chamber treatment. We will get more info about it as we get through these tests. Part of why Christyna chose the mastectomy route was to avoid 6 weeks of radiation. Oh well, my hair on Christyna’s head should still be in good shape at the end of this. Radiation would have affected it.

There’s your update. I rambled long enough. Go make a pillow or blanket fort of your own. If you wanna make it with Christyna, bring your own pillows. My Strategic Pillow Reserve is spent. I am holding one pillow back for myself… (if you didn’t know, I am of the opinion that one cannot have too many pillows, especially in bed! Christyna does not subscribe to this philosophy/economy. She’s a jerk on few things, the Strategic Pillow Reserve is one such area of jerkiness.)

Happy Wednesday and kick some butt today. Do it for Christyna!
