Sometimes Rainbows

The day I was on the way to physical therapy, was the day I snapped this picture. My first rainbow in Houston. I woke up uneasy then was greeted by a sprinkling of rain out of nowhere. I took the rainbow as a good omen. Well, I ended up being a f’in ray of gosh darn Houston sunshine!

Christyna wasn’t feeling right. Something hurt, kinda. She called the surgical team and left a message. Then she texted them. Yada yada yada… We are going in to see them in an hour. Christyna is prescribed antibiotics and I’m taught how to pack her wound. The physician assistant was great in how she interacted with Christyna. We have another appointment in  two days with the wound healing team, and scheduled one with the surgical team for next week to take the final drain out. Cool.

I saw a rainbow. I got a picture of it. It’s something else to be newly wed, newly rebuilt, and taking care of my partner who has just had a double mastectomy. I am putting things inside her… get your minds in the gutter because it’s way better than what I really am. Christyna is such a trooper through this! I follow the instructions I was given and pack her wound twice a day until we see the wound healing team. 5 times.

Today we went to the wound healing appointment. Christyna is in great hands! RNs to the right of her, and to the left! In walks Dr John Stamos Jr! Dr. McDreamy can kick rocks! His eyes tell you it’s gonna be alright, but Dr John Stamos Jr is it! I had something good to look at as I had to learn how to pack the wound fully. It’s way more thorough. Christyna winced once when the he packed the wound. I’m thoroughly grossed out.

In the face of all this, Christyna is doing great. She just walked in from going out with an old friend/sister. They had dinner and watched TV. A normal night. I got brought kale and sweet potatoes and green beans and chopped brisket as a doggy bag.

We have been married for a little over four months. This is a start, I tell you what. It’s not always going to be rainbows. Notice when it is rainbows. Little things and little victories are what matters. TTFN
