Christian, the Blouir family
The way things constantly change… honestly, it’s enough to make your head spin.
There never seems to be enough time to process or fully grasp one piece of information before, BAM, something else changes.
At the beginning of last week, the plan was for Christian to be moved from the oncology floor, once medically cleared, to inpatient rehab here at the same hospital. Two days later, that plan was no longer happening for one reason or another.
Then, the following day, we were told that Christian wouldn’t be coming home when he was discharged. Instead, the plan was for him to go to a hospice house. That was absolutely devastating for me as his mom. I wasn’t prepared for that.
And then, literally the very next day, that plan changed too.
So we’ve been here, trying to figure out what the next step should be. And, of course, nothing really moves forward over the weekends, so we’ve just been waiting.
Today, Christian had radiation this morning, and when we got back, his care team met with us. They found an inpatient rehabilitation facility in Akron that accepts his insurance, and thankfully, Christian agreed to go. Then literally a couple hours later they tell us insurance wont cover it since he has to leave the facility to go to radiation.
So back to the drawing board. It seems Christian will be discharged in 1-3 days and will do out patient therapy and continue with his mon-fri radiation until this round is over, then we re-evaluate and go from there.
It feels like we’ve been living day by day, sometimes hour by hour, because nothing stays the same for very long. It’s emotionally and mentally exhausting trying to keep up with all of the changes while also trying to stay strong for Christian.
But we’re taking it one day at a time and praying that this next step will help him regain some strength, independence, and quality of life. ❤️
