After learning I did not need chemo, the oncologist prescribed the medication Tamoxifen. Maybe I should have gone against the advice not to consult Dr. google because I really did not know what I was jumping into. Tamoxifen helps prevent a re-currence of the cancer and I am supposed to be on it for 5 years. Well it made me feel like I had been poisoned. I became extremely ill with nausea, dizziness, severe muscle cramps and aches, and insomnia. I did not sleep through the night for 2 weeks straight. I had to stop taking it. I have done some research and learned there are different manufacturers that use fewer "fillers" and I am going to try taking a very tiny dose instead of the 20mg and taking the pills from a different manufacturer when I am ready to resume doing so. Unfortunetly I am needing acupuncture and massage which are not covered by insurance and have run up a lot of co pays with my prescriber trying different medications to off set the side effects of the Tamoxifine. I also was eager to start working, again, but had to cancel appointments because I was far too sick to work. I am appreciative of any additional support I can receive during this time. I really do wish to work and be independent.

This is why! Treatment is ongoing process even when it’s not radiation or chemo.

I'm also on Tamoxifen. Now starting year 2 and was told I would need to be on it for 5 years. This is a standard medication for BC patients. Some people have more side effects than others. There is another medication that you can take but requires a shot every month - if you have not gone through menopause. It might be worth asking about it....So sorry to hear about the debilitating side effects....
