Jamieson Family Health Journey
Yesterday’s amylase labs were high again and I was very discouraged. I was curious whether my surgeon might remove the drain anyway. But when I didn’t get a phone call converting today’s phone appointment to a clinic visit, any smidgeon of hope I still had was dashed.
Dr Sparkman called promptly at 10:40 this morning and walked through his questions, then invited me to come to the hospital and get the drain out. Larry and I turned to each other with eager, nervous and relieved grins.
Needless to say, I high-tailed it down there and happily let him do his work taking that drain away. Please pray I never need something like that again. I have a whole new admiration for those needing “medical appendages” (braces, casts, c-paps, feeding tubes, catheters, colostomies, etc.). And that is saying something because I know a whole lot of people who require such things, including people in my own family. I didn’t want to be a complainer. But, honestly, it was becoming an increasing challenge.
Thanks be to God!
- I have officially started back to work, albeit slowly. I was able to attend Make ‘em Smile last weekend with the Walk Right In Ministries team. It was a gorgeous day and a fun blessing to be part of such an amazing event. The cherry on top was watching Carly enjoying it with Sofie. Carly’s favorite parts were bubble making, karaoke, exploring all the indoor and outdoor exhibits at her own pace and selections, seeing her friend Cody get his hair sprayed and hanging out on the schoolbus in the parking lot. I’m including some pictures from this special day.
- My improving clinical symptoms (fluid amylase being the only exception) indicate the drain could be removed with low risk of further complications at this point.
- Carly’s contentedness, sleep and general health is improving as I’m becoming more visible and involved again around the house.
- Larry’s 3-month labs were mostly stable since his last check.
- I am thankful for beautiful text messages and cards in the mail from well-wishers. God has used the cheer, love and kindness of those thoughts and prayers as a very sweet and uplifting gift.
- We are thankful to have enjoyed another freezer meal from another of Alex’s incredible friends. We had leftovers for two nights and it brought welcome ease at the end of a couple days when I wasn’t feeling well.
Please Pray
- Accelerated healing of the fistula (that removal of the drain would even help this), no further complications (e.g., infection, hernia) and full relief from pain
- Wisdom and discipline to practice daily exercise and rest for mind and body (Larry and me both)
- Improved sleep quality and quantity (for all three of us)
- Ease and success with a work project Larry has “going live” this coming week
- Momentum on some summer household chores and projects
- Peace
Mark 4:39
Jesus awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

Isaiah 43:19
Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
