*Sorry in advance for this being so long.*
Zechariah is doing well. His spirit is not tainted and he is such a resilient boy, he truly is so special. He still absolutely loves to help and has found his own way of doing so while using his walker or "bum shuffling" around. He loves playing with all his toys and his siblings are really enjoying playing with him as well ❤️ Thank you so much for them. His laugh is still contagious and blesses us with it's daily presence which reminds us how much of a miracle his life is. Its a sobering thought knowing medically speaking he shouldn't be here, but then seeing him every morning. It's not something a parent gets used to I don't think, knowing that they witnessed what "should" have been the last moments of their child's life. So we are very aware of the miracle God chose to give Zech. It leaves a lot of questions, gratefulness, and guilt honestly, which may not make sense, but it does. There are a lot of hard times still for us. The flashbacks, rehearsal of what we could have done better, and how we could have maybe even stopped it from ever happening, but I'm reminded of 2 verses that have helped pull me through this.
1: Philippians 4:7
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
This verse holds facts that can only be known to the extent I've felt them because of going through something of this magnitude.
2: Philippians 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Whenever my mind starts to try and wander, I have to make the conscious effort to decide I will bring every thought into captivity unto the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). I have but to look at Zech's face to replace a thought with something pure and lovely. The enemy will not win, we wont let him, and that is our choice and the battle we now fight.
Praise God Zech is learning how to live and isn't daunted by the loss. It seems he sees his life as a new puzzle he gets to figure out and is (honestly) enjoying doing so. It's very strange to see how much it doesn't bother him (it did for 2 days in the beginning). After showing him videos of other kids with the same robot leg he will have, he understands he's not alone and hopefully meeting more kids like him will help truly heal any portion of his mind that may be worried that we can't see.
Prayer requests!
-Zech has had some very odd profuse sweating episodes that are very abnormal for him as he has never "ran hut". Pray that no localized infection is taking root or was missed somewhere.
-Zech is struggling to eat and is loosing weight. We are trying everything within our power to get him to eat food including asking him and getting him whatever he says he'd like to eat but he takes a few bites and says his tummy is full. Its a hard situation and one we've never dealt with. Zech doesnt have weight to loose so this could turn into a big problem if it's not solved rather quickly. We are hoping the protein shakes will make a difference if we can get him to drink the while thing. Today was the first day and he would only drink half. Tips and tricks ARE VERY welcome! I read all the comments ❤️
