Brent Wunder and Family
Again, your generosity and prayers are completely humbling and overwhelming. Thank so much. You have no idea what it means to us, we are feeling all of the love and support surrounding our family as we navigate though this journey. And it's a journey!
I know that there are a lot of questions regarding next steps and what we are hearing. Honestly it's overwhelming. We flew to Houston to meet with MD Anderson last Thursday and Friday. We were extremely impressed with facility and the oncologist that we met with. Dr. Eluri was very patient explaining her thinking and her opinions on treatments. So far all 4 oncologists say chemo is the first step (each doctor with a slightly different regimen and type). Unfortunately they are not able to rerun scans on Brent just yet due to having surgery just 3 weeks ago. Most would not run scans for 3 months, after chemo, while Dr. Eluri would run in the next 2-3 weeks. This will help indicate if there is any cancer left within the peritoneal wall(a huge prayer right now is that the next scans are clear). They also ran a Signatera test last week which can take a couple weeks to come back. This is a liquid biopsy to help determine and detect if there is any residual disease floating around and track reccurance. This can detect cancer months before scans in some instances. (Please pray for a negative result). These 2 tests can guide treatment. There was also tissue testing done on the tumor by Memorial Sloan Kettering which will give us more information as well.
We are currently in NYC meeting with MSK today and then Boston to meet with Dana Farber tomorrow. As of now they will be our final 2 appointments before we make some decisions regarding treatment plan. We ask for prayers of discernment as we try to figure out the balance of curing this cancer, quality of life, and impact on the family both financially and emotionally.
Thank you again to each and every one of you- near and far that have reached out, offered help, listened to us when we needed a shoulder, prayed with us and for us. We cannot put into words what that means to us. We love you all.
Lyndsy and Brent
