We had a great first inning today!

Surgery (The Whipple Procedure) went as well as the surgeon could have hoped.

The cancer found is the type suspected.  They successfully removed the tumor with clear/negative margins.  They also removed some swollen lymph nodes and surrounding tissue and sent it off for biopsy.  Those results should be available by Monday.

As we head into the second inning, we have a brutal recovery process ahead of us.  We expect to be in the hospital for another week.  Bear won’t be able to lift a gallon of milk for 8 weeks.

We still have a lot of game left to play here though.  In about 3 months from now, Bear will begin 6 months of aggressive chemo treatment that he can do back in Atlanta.  The prognosis of patients who get this surgery along with 6 months of chemo is still only a 50% cure rate.  If it does come back, there is basically nothing they can do at that point to combat it.

He is in great spirits… cutting up with the hospital staff and having deep theological conversations with his nurse from Syria who is a believer! He’s also excited about this very nice hospital room and states, “I wish everyone could see the incredible Super Bowl viewing set up I have from this hospital bed!”-Bear

We are believing for the full miracle to come. Complete healing! But no matter the outcome we trust in the Lord's perfect plan!
