Austin Ryan
We (Austin’s mom, dad, stepdad, and I) met with his care team, including the neurosurgeon, trauma team, and social worker. The entire staff at University Hospital Trauma and Life Support Center (TLC) has been amazing throughout this process.
The neurosurgeon explained the specific head trauma injuries Austin sustained, the steps they’ve taken, and the reasons behind them. He also shared information none of us were ready to hear: Austin has a unilateral brain hemorrhage (about 5mm) on the right side of his midbrain, which is keeping him from waking up right now. Note: This hemorrhage is no longer bleeding.
The doctor indicated that Austin has a 50/50 chance of waking up, so we are staying strong and remaining hopeful! He emphasized that this recovery will take time. To give Austin the best chance at waking up and receiving the stimulation he needs, the team recommends moving him to a Long-Term Acute Care (LTAC) facility. We encourage and support visitors, as the more people that come to visit him, will help stimulate him and he needs stimulation. Please continue to share this site with others!!
Once we determine the facility he will be moved to, we will be sure to provide the information here.
Oh yeah..: he did 💩 again today. It went from his butt to his feet!! (Yep, I’m really going to get slapped)
We have increased the goal to help Austin with supporting his daughter, Blakelyn, and the family with the unexpected expenses they are facing.
Please keep the prayers and positive vibes coming! Austin is a stubborn and strong willed man, but needs everyone to rally around him!!
