Lots happening today. They’re going to swap his femoral line for a PICC line for infection control since his foley is out and he’s pooping regularly. To do this, they’re going to paralyze him because of his muscle tone when the staff does anything to him. When they paralyze him, they’re going to try to determine if his lung compliance is actually bad due to infection or if it’s his muscle tone that is fighting the vent and making the PIPs high. If his lung compliance is good, they intend to sedate him more with the enteral meds to try to extubate him sooner. If his lung compliance is actually bad they will just keep treating for infection.
We also found out last night that his bottom teeth are embedded in his tongue due to positioning and swelling. We can’t reposition his tongue and when we tried to get his teeth out of his tongue he started bleeding everywhere. They are putting cold sugar water on it trying to get the swelling down. He also has breakdown on the top of his tongue from the ET tube.
Please pray for good lung compliance, speedy extubation, good muscle tone (no neuro storming), resolution of infection, and all the things to get us to a chamber more quickly.
This morning has been really hard. We go to sleep and momentarily forget where we’re at. We’re sleeping through alarms and lights out of pure exhaustion and in the morning, when we wake up we realize all over again where we are and what we’re facing. This is so heavy. To Yah be the glory.
