Asher Blue
I'm a day behind writing this. After Asher did great on his first cpap trial they planned to continue them every 8 hours to help him build his diaphragm strength back to breathe on his own with hopes of intubating Monday 3/23. Each subsequent trial, though, he wasn't tolerating well. His breathing was very fast, shallow, and erratic which was affecting his blood gas. They cut the last one short as 2 minutes in and plan to let him rest for a while longer now before considering another trial. They suspected he was neurostorming and started him on propanolol. His tidal volumes have been hit and miss the last day and his PIPs have been high. He's gotten several boluses of the IV medication to try and calm the symptoms.
Neurology came this morning. They said the myoclonus we were previously told was not seizures is, in fact, seizures and that he has had several since admission. We were told he only had one true seizure the entire admission previously. He showed us Asher's MRI and said there's significant brain damage, but that his neuroplasticity and abilities to create alternate routes of communication was a good thing, but to expect severe developmental delays. We are unconcerned with the MRI. Our God is fully able to do mighty things. The neurologist gave the example of a traffic detour due to traffic or construction and having to find an alternate way around. All I could think of is how once that new road is finished, traveling is much smoother than before. We are standing on that.
We had lots of people gather with us yesterday evening, both in person and in spirit, to pray for Asher and blow shofars. So many people standing in agreement with us, declaring his healing and restoration. I thought this morning how funny it would be to laugh in satan's face if Asher was on the swim team as he got older :)
Continue to pray with us! Specific prayers aside from a full healing and restoration are:
-His brain and body to coordinate his breathing and regulate it appropriately
-Temperature regulation (he's been fevering the last few days again and is on a cooling pad and receiving Tylenol)
-Swift extubation with the ability to protect his airway
-Ability to eat and drink on his own
-Return of bladder and bowel control (y'all, this little guy takes a lot of pride in his potty independence)
-Steadfast faith for us to stand on Yah's promises. He is the God of the living and we believe He will breathe life back into Asher.
Also pray for the girls as they are feeling a bit under the weather right now. The disruption in their routine surely has not helped.
We know our little guy is in there fighting and we are going to see him smile again and hear his little backtalk and watch him do all the things the medical community doesn't think is possible. Our God is able.
