Help Angie & Adam After Major Accident
UPS: Angie was excited to learn that her ketamine dose was lower…. When that is gone she is close to coming home.
DOWNS: Pain level was bad today (probably due to reduced meds) and Angie is feeling a lot of pain in her pelvis.
UPLIFTING: Angie was able to raise her left arm on her own about 10” today. When physical and occupational therapy came in, she was able to lift it so they could remove the pillow.
SITTING TALL: Therapy focus for the day was sitting up. The only leg Angie is going to be allowed to put any weight on is her right leg - this is her “pivot leg” that will help her get from the bed to the wheelchair. It was clearly painful for her. After 15 seconds of sitting up at the side of the bed, she asked if she could stop. They told her they would like to have her attempt one minute. I was holding Anaya and brought her over and laid her by Angie’s thigh. She sat for THREE MINUTES.
THE BEST MEDICINE: The therapists told us that Anaya is clearly the best medicine for Angie. They said it was fine for Anaya to lay across Angie’s chest and that it would probably boost her milk production as well. Little did we know that Anaya would take a three hour nap snuggled with her mama. It was amazing to see. Once Anaya wiggled she went a little too far down on Angie’s ribs and it got painful to breathe with her cracked ribs and the weight of the baby on her. We will definitely do this again tomorrow.
GOT MILK: Adam is still pumping milk from Angie. Hopefully they will be able to start saving this soon.
ROCKSTARS: Jayla, their favorite nurse, is amazing. She has come to be a close friend to both Adam and Angie and is now an honorary cousin to Anaya. She was Auntie Jayla but then Adam told her that Aunts have to help pay for college so she downgraded her standing. She is a lovely human being and an amazing nurse! She is off work until Monday so we are crossing our fingers the new nurse is amazing as well.
CHANGING SPACES: Prepping is starting for when Angie gets to come home. She will have a Hoyer Lift, hospital bed and certainly other medical items as well. Due to small bedroom doors, the hope is that the living or dining room will be able to accommodate the equipment.
WORD GETS AROUND: Adam said that one of the nurses he met last night saw the shared “SupportNow” post from this page. Thank you for all of your donations and sharing Angie’s story! It made its way to Birmingham!
PUPDATE: Louis is eating his first meal right now with me here and without Adam being here! This is a step in the right direction. Turbo is sharing the bowl with him. They are both missing Angie. And Taz 💔
TOMORROW: Who knows what will happen? But moving forward in babysteps is still moving forward. Angie is so positive throughout this. She thanks her nurses and doctors all the time and realizes how much she took for granted in the past.
NEXT WEEK: The hunt for childcare begins. We are hoping to be able to find someone to come to the home but this is not financially feasible. Most daycares here will not accept infants younger than 8 weeks.
