Zeke's Journey
It took me until yesterday to fully grasp the significance of what Dr. A shared at his visit last week. I mean, wow. We have finally hit a place where his primitive reflexes have integrated and have propelled us into a new stage. Organization. It’s hard to write out bc I’m still processing.
We got to see Dr. A again today and he gave us a tweak in our protocol. And clarified for me some ways I can better implement the protocol at home. Tally has been doing fabulous work integrating all of the neuro plans in with treatment. She was able to ask some great questions today too and gain some good clarification. We feel like we are on a roll and are so excited for Zeke.
Tally has been working hard with Zeke on rolling and bending his elbows fluidly. This might not seem like a lot - but it is! And he is bending his arms more and more.
Today, we also had a huge moment- seriously, both of us had tears. There is a really fun toy - a car that drives in the wall - and it can be directed by Zeke’s eye gaze. So Zeke can drive it! Tally set up a page for him so he could do it. But he kept navigating to a different page in his talker. We kept redirecting him back to the page Tally made but he kept resisting. Finally, he navigated to say “please.” Tally told him we would wait and see what he wanted to say. He navigated to the page he had been trying to go to and showed us he ALREADY had a page for this car. And it was BETTER than the one we just made! Then he made the car drive and had fun. Tally and I both had tears in our eyes bc he totally knew what he was trying to say and we missed it for a bit. And Tally was blown away by how well verses he truly is with his talker.
I get teary as I write this bc it must be terrible to not be understood. It makes my belly hurt just thinking about it. I’m glad Zeke has his talker but am now praying that he will just start using it. He doesn’t like to use it in public but it would be so good for him!
Anyway, Zeke is a rockstar and so is his whole team. It has been fun to watch his progress in this intensive.
