If you look at that side-by-side photo, you might not notice how big of a difference bathroom accessibility has already made for our family. Let me just say, this feels monumental.
Up to this point, we had set up a bathing station in the middle of our kitchen floor with an inflatable bathtub that continues to give Camila the support she needs. 16 months, 200+ baths, so many memories.
We always hoped one day to transition bath time to our main floor bathroom and it is because of fundraising efforts, this was made possible. We are so grateful. By removing the sliding shower glass door, installing a fixed shower curtain rod, and replacing the previous shower head with a dual shower head, we now have an accessible bathroom that meets Camila’s current needs.
Bath time is one of Camila’s top five favorite activities and the perfect bath has to include a lot of bubbles, her favorite green Stegosaurus, and splashing. Endless amounts of splashing. It is also one of my favorite times spent with Camila. Aside from the obvious fun we are both having, it gives me the opportunity to be fully present with her. I find her eyes. Her disability does not diminish the light in them. In fact, it does not diminish her at all. I do not know what the future holds, but I have that moment with Camila and in that moment, I have everything I need.
We look forward to the many new memories in our now accessible bathroom. Thank you for following along and we look forward to sharing more updates soon.
