Wayne & Kelsey Ritscher
It's crazy how much can change in six months...and, yet we find ourselves in similar situations. Six months ago, we sat in the hospital in Iowa City celebrating how steroids worked to decrease swelling and bring mom/Kelsey back to us. At the same time, we anxiously awaited mom/Kelsey's official diagnosis. Now, we find ourselves, again, grateful for the quick impact of steroids to reduce swelling...while, at the same time, anxious about what's next.
Mom/Kelsey and dad/Wayne had appointments with radiology and oncology in Iowa City earlier this week. The latest scan of mom/Kelsey's brain shows significant swelling and that the chemo regime that she is currently on is not working. Dad/Wayne was given a variety of options to consider for what's next. It's a pretty broad range of things to think about. Mom/Kelsey and dad/Wayne will be following up with the team in Iowa City next week with an official decision.
In today's world, the access we have to information is incredibly amazing...and incredibly overwhelming. Prayers for clarity and peace in whatever the next steps are would be greatly appreciated. That said, we also remember that this decision is not all "ours". Proverbs 3 - Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
One thing is certain, Mom/Kelsey is still fighting...and we will continue to fight right alongside her. When I took the photo I've included in this update, I never imagined I would share it. But...six months. A lot has changed in six months. The love, the humor, and the trust embodied in this image are a great reminder for us all as we navigate this journey.
Thanks so much to everyone for your continued love and support. We appreciate you so, so much!
