We want to thank you all—each donor, follower, and supporter—for standing with us on this emotional road toward recovery for our girl.

Just two days before we were set to leave for Vayda’s long-awaited inpatient rehabilitation, we were blindsided with devastating news: our insurance denied the prior authorization. This denial came after months of preparation, team approvals, and confirmation that the program was in-network and medically necessary. Every single one of Vayda’s providers agrees—she is a strong candidate. For a condition that has no cure, this program could have been the closest thing to treatment.

Yet, we find ourselves at the mercy of a system that prioritizes paperwork over people. A doctor behind a screen—who’s never seen Vayda, doesn’t understand ATP1A3-related disorders, and certainly doesn't know her potential—made a decision that stripped us of a vital opportunity.

To say we are heartbroken doesn’t scratch the surface. We’ve poured our energy, faith, and your generous support into this next step, and now it feels like we’re navigating chaos. Still, we refuse to give up.

The hospital has stepped up and offered us an interim solution while we pursue appeals and open an investigation with the Nevada Insurance Commissioner. Starting in 2 weeks, Vayda will participate in an outpatient intensive therapy program while continuing to be followed closely by her neurologist and complex care team twice a week. While this isn’t the immersive care that inpatient would have provided, we are committed to making the most of it.

The plan is to complete two back-to-back 3-week outpatient sessions with a short break, followed by another 3-week round in July—all taking place in Salt Lake, allowing us to stay connected to her medical team.

This fight is far from over. We are still actively appealing, still advocating, and still pushing for the care Vayda deserves. We’ll continue to update you as things unfold, and we thank you for being in our corner during every twist and turn.

With love and gratitude,
Brittany & Team Vayda
