Tina Wickes Stage 4 Cancer Journey
Itβs been one full week since my first chemo infusion. I still wake up every day thinking, βIs this really happening?!β Itβs been less than a month since my official diagnosis, but it feels like a lifetime.
As I mentioned in my previous post, the infusion went well, and over the last week Iβve had very few side effects, which Iβm incredibly thankful for. Monday, day 5, was the dreaded βchemo fatigue,β and wow, did it take me down. I barely opened my eyes all day. Itβs not just being tired. Itβs not the kind of fatigue where you can take a nap and bounce back. It felt like my body went into deep hibernation to reboot and recover. I was told day 5 would be the hardest, and it absolutely was.
As an oncology patient, I get βall the perksβ - a dietitian, social worker, physical therapist, pharmacist, and more. Iβve been slowly working my way through that list of specialists and taking advantage of all the ways they can help me.
I have been able to keep working remotely, which has helped maintain a sense of normalcy for me, plus, I truly love my job. But, I miss the people, I hope to be back in the office soon once my immune system has recovered a bit.Β
Iβve also been getting out every day for a small walk, even if itβs only 20 minutes. Movement is so important, especially during treatment, and it helps both my body and my mind.
My mantra this week: There is always something to smile about.
Thanks for following my journey. π
