Tim finished Round Six of chemo last week and it was a doozie from Day 1! The chemo is cumulative and so six months of build up really affected his fatigue and cognitively also. Yesterday was his monthly bloodwork with the medical oncologist and all his numbers were good, praise God.
The universal standard of care for glioblastoma is six months of the temodar which Tim completed last week. After the good report from the perfusion image MRI both medical and radiation oncologists agreed that he should continue with the chemo but after explaining his last experience, we all decided to take a break to give his body a rest so he will not start Round Seven until after New Years!
Tim has also had several episodes in the last month. Probably exasperated by the effects to the chemo. One example is, we are standing in line to order lunch and discussing what we will both order, then suddenly as he tries to order his speech is garbled. I ordered for us, paid for our food and by the time we walked to the car his speech was fine. He doesn't lose his balance or weakness or consciousness, just his speech.
Other events that have happened since our last post: Tim turned 66 and we celebrated at dinner with two of Tim's closest friends who were groomsmen in our wedding and friendships dating almost five decades (see pic).
Next, Sam turned 23. Nettie surprised him and drove up from Mobile to enjoy a steak dinner and yummy birthday cake. All four of our birthdays (five if you count dog, Pearl) are within six weeks of each other so look out for more bday pics.
Nettie's fall soccer season has finally come to a close, extended by two conference playoff games. Our tire tread and gasoline bill appreciates the break til the abbreviated spring season.
This morning I was stopped in my tracks at the scripture in a devotional book. The verse was Exodus 14:13 and Moses is speaking to the Israelites as they have the Red Sea on one side and the charging Egyptian army on the other. And Moses said to the people, "Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will work for you today." Some days cancer feels like a charging army so please continue to pray for the Canteys. Pray for healing, recovery from the chemo fog and that we would daily fear not, stand firm and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will work for us today.
