At the beginning of November, John was admitted into a research trial at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York City. He takes 2 different trial drugs that specifically target his cancer's genetics. 1 drug targets the KRAS mutation. Think of KRAS as a stuck accelerator pedal telling cancer cells to grow nonstop. The trial drug turns down that stuck accelerator. The second drug takes advantage of the fact that his cancer is missing the MTAP gene. This trial drug exploits that vulnerability causing the cancer cells to be more likely to die or stop growing. For the first three months of the trial John will have to live in NYC. John is in an apartment close to the MSK cancer clinic. Family and friends are rotating in to stay with him. Our immediate family will be with him for Christmas and we are so very grateful!!
