Post-op day 2

Today was a good day! In true Ian fashion, he’s exceeding expectations! He was fully cleared by in-patient PT this morning. He went up 2 flights of stairs, wove in and out of some chair obstacles and technically doesn’t need someone to walk with him. She said she could tell his brain was compensating for a lot prior to surgery and she doesn’t usually clear people to walk independently - way to go, Ian! He still needs to do out-patient PT when we get home, but we are celebrating his success!Β

When we met with the team this morning, they took off his head dressing. He has 18 staples in his head, as well as some dissolvable stitches. The staples will come out at his post-op visit next Wednesday. He also has an incision in his abdomen, where they took some fat to pack in the space where they drilled to prevent CSF from leaking. I was willing to volunteer as tribute for that part of the procedure, but πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ.Β

Ian also got to see his cousins, Maddie and Ellie! It was great to catch up with them and we hope to be able to spend a little more time with them before heading back to CT.Β

Lastly, we had to say goodbye to Pierre, also known as Peter to make it easier for people to say his name. We are so thankful for his care, especially! It’s hard to stand out on an amazing team of professionals, but he really does!Β

It turns out that nurses aren’t that different from teachers- they all were pumped about β€œthat ☠️☠️☠️☠️ cake” from Whole Foods and the thank you basket of snacks and treats. Pierre was announcing in the hallway that β€œwe’ve got goodies” and they flocked to the break room, which happened to be next to Ian’s room.Β

In a fun twist, we just found out that Ian’s moving rooms tonight! They want to prep the room for incoming surgery patients tomorrow. We only agreed to move since today is Pierre’s day 3- haha! πŸ˜‡πŸ˜‚ He’s moving up in the world- now on the 5th floor with other AN surgery patients and a great view! We anticipate discharge tomorrow and will be back with that update when it happens! πŸ₯°
