After what felt like the longest drive home from Virginia Beach, we arrived safely late last night, and there truly are no words for how good it feels to finally have him here.
We know there is still a long road ahead in his recovery, but Tom has already exceeded every goal set by his medical team. In just three days after brain surgery, he went from ICU to CCU and was discharged home with no need for PT , OT or home health . We are witnessing God’s hand in every step of this journey.
As expected, he is completely exhausted. His body and mind have been through so much, and right now our focus is simply on rest, healing, and slowly rebuilding his strength.
Once we receive the final pathology and better understand the tumor that was removed, Johns Hopkins will take over his care and guide us through the next steps. For now, we are taking everything one day at a time and one step at a time.
A huge thank you to my dear family friend Adam Huddleston for connecting us with a friend who helped us navigate getting Tom where he needed to be. That connection has meant more than I can put into words.
And to our village, our family, friends, and prayer warriors, thank you. You have carried us through some of the hardest days of our lives, and we feel every single prayer.
Please keep praying for our whole family, too. They have been through every single step of this with us. They have stood beside Tom, held me up, prayed, cried, driven, waited, worried and loved us through all of it. They are tired too, and they need strength, rejuvenation and that incredible peace that only God can give. Please pray that He restores each one of them as we all prepare for the road ahead.
“When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” — Psalm 61:2
That is exactly where we are. When my heart feels overwhelmed, I know where to turn. God has sustained us through every moment, and we will continue to trust Him with whatever comes next.
I’m trying to stay strong, but I’m not going to lie, this is overwhelming. There is so much to process emotionally and mentally while trying to be there for Tom and our family. ( but honestly they have been OUR STRENGTH) If you’ve texted, called, or sent me a message and I haven’t responded, please reach out again. I know I’m missing things right now, and it is never intentional.
God is good. We are grateful. And we keep moving forward in faith.
