Something my family and I have been talking about a lot lately is the phrase βfaith over fear.β And while I absolutely believe that faith in our Lord and Savior always wins, Iβve also realized something through this journey:
Faith and fear can both be true at the same time.
You can have tremendous faith and still be afraid.
You can believe with your whole heart that God is working and still wonder what tomorrow will bring. You can trust His plan and still have moments when the unknown feels overwhelming. You can pray boldly for healing while admitting that some days, youβre scared.
And I donβt think we need to feel guilty for holding space for both.
Fear is a natural human response to uncertainty. Our minds want to race ahead and figure out what tomorrow, next week, next month, or next year might hold. But Jesus reminds us:
βTherefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.β β Matthew 6:34
There is something incredibly freeing about that reminder. We don't have to carry tomorrow today.
Faith doesn't mean we understand what is happening. Faith doesn't mean we can see the ending. In fact, Scripture tells us:
βNow faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.β β Hebrews 11:1
And when fear does creep in, we can come right back to the truth:
βWhen I am afraid, I put my trust in you.β β Psalm 56:3
I love that verse because it doesn't say if I am afraid. It says when. Fear may show up, but it doesn't get the final word. We can acknowledge it and still choose to put our trust in God.
So I'm writing this today simply to say: know that both things can be true in your heart. You can have faith and still have moments of fear. You don't have to feel guilty for that. What matters is where we continue to place our trust.
Faith is believing when we cannot see. Trusting when we cannot understand. And knowing that no matter what, who, when, where, or why, God is still God.
Jesus tells us that faith even as small as a mustard seed can move mountains. Matthew 17:20. And let me tell you, this family has a whole buku worth of mustard seeds over here.
So while all of you continue standing with us, please don't forget that we are standing with you, too.
If you're reading this and there is something happening in your own life that needs prayer, please reach out. No request is too big or too small. We would be honored to pray alongside you.
You have all been the hands and feet of Jesus to our family during this season, and we want you to know that this big Violette Crew is here for you, too.
We love you. We appreciate you. And we thank God every single day for every prayer you continue to lift on our behalf.
Faith doesn't require the absence of fear. Sometimes faith is simply choosing to trust God while fear is still sitting beside you. -Jenna
