Sunday morning: Day 4 update:

My sweet husband continues to amaze us. Tom is so incredibly strong! Today they removed his drain, and there are no signs of infection, which is another huge blessing and answered prayer. He is also being moved out of ICU and into CCU. And one of the biggest blessings, at this point, we’ve been told he will not need rehab or physical therapy. 🙏

We are still trying to wrap our heads around everything that has happened. To think that he was diagnosed, transferred to another hospital, had an MRI, received the MRI results, and underwent surgery, all within 48 hours, is incredible. We are so thankful for the excellent medical team at Sentara and the care they have given him every step of the way.

But there is absolutely no way we could walk through this without God sustaining us. He has been right here in the middle of every frightening moment, every decision, every tear and every answered prayer. There are countless prayer warriors praying for my sweet husband. You know who you are. Please know that we feel those prayers, and we are more grateful than I could ever put into words.

And then there are our children. When your children are grown, you spend so much of your life still wanting to take care of them. But watching our girls and our sons rally around their dad and refuse to leave his side has touched me in a way I will never forget.

Yesterday, Eric and Kristin drove me all the way home so I could get some of Tom’s regular medications that the hospital does not carry, while Taryn, Eric and Angela stayed right there with Tom so he was never alone. When I got home, Jenna had picked up the other medications he needed from the pharmacy and brought us food. She also set up a support page for her dad, which absolutely touched my heart.

Getting to see them, even for those moments, and getting those precious hugs was exactly what I needed. ❤️

Thank you to Eddy, Heidi, Savannah, Colton, Landon, Missy and Meghan for the visits, the hugs, the love and the emotional support. Sometimes just having people you love walk through the door means more than they could possibly know.

And a HUGE shout-out to the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office for the incredible support and love you have shown Tom and our entire family. It means so much to us.

Through all of this, we are realizing just how blessed we are because of the wonderful support system we have around us. Our children, our family, our friends, Tom’s law enforcement family, and so many people who are praying from near and far have surrounded us with more love than we could ever have imagined.

We know there is a long road ahead of us. We know there will be hard days. But I also know that the peace that passes all understanding that I feel right now can only come from God, and I believe with all my heart that He is answering the prayers of my “family.” And when I say family, I mean every single one of you who loves us, checks on us, shows up for us and continues to lift my sweet husband up in prayer.

We are exhausted. We are overwhelmed. But more than anything, we are grateful.

Grateful for our children.
Grateful for our family and friends.
Grateful for this incredible support system.
Grateful for an amazing medical team.
Grateful for every single prayer being lifted up for Tom.
Grateful to everyone who’s helping us back at home with grass and needs
And above everything else, grateful for a God who is sustaining us through every single moment of this storm.

Keep praying for my sweet husband. There is a long road ahead, but today we are celebrating another step forward. God is carrying us, and we know we are not walking this road alone. ❤️🙏
