Life in the PICU is a winding road. We make a little progress in one area and stalled out in another. Today Wilder got his last chest tube removed and was able to come off of his oxygen support via nasal cannula. Yay! It’s so good to be able to see more of his sweet little face.
Today he was so sleepy he was very uninterested in taking a bottle or sucking on his pacifier until later in the day. He enjoyed sucking on his pacifier dipped in milk for a few minutes this afternoon and tonight he took a few sips of his bottle before immediately falling asleep. We are learning his patterns still and the nurse said we can try to offer him a bottle right when he wakes up next time so we don’t miss his wake window instead of waiting until his scheduled feeding time. I’m hopeful this will help! His speech therapist assured me that progress is not linear and that it’s pretty typical for it to go up and down as he relearns how to bottle feed.
He will not be able get his lines/pacing wires removed tomorrow since he had to go back on the medication to help dry up his chest tubes. They want to give that medication another day or two to do its job before removing his line/wires.
Prayer requests:
-forward progress with bottle feeding
-continued healing and overall health
-that his wires/lines can come out soon
-strength for Jesse and I as we are both growing pretty exhausted in this season
