Today I took Asa to urgent care after noticing a few things all week (bruising, lack of appetite, fatigue, extra clingy, pale, bags under his eyes). The little things on their own didn't mean much but added together were not a good sign. We hoped for the best but feared the worst. His white blood count was extremely high, his platelets and hemoglobin were very low. Our heart dropped when the doctor confirmed the biggest concern we were facing was Leukemia.
We were told to take him immediately to Arthur M Blank where he would be admitted for further testing.
I drove Asa home to get Austin and gather a few things we would need in the hospital. Family rushed to our house to care for Gideon, Josie, and Aria in our absence. On the way to the hospital we prayed...fully expecting a miracle.
When we got to the hospital, we were sent to the ER and almost immediately taken back – they were expecting him. More labs were taken and the doctor came in to confirm it was Leukemia, but we did not yet know which type. That news hit like a brick because I was still expecting a miracle and for the labs to come back clean or with a much simpler diagnosis.
We began to tell family and friends and the response from everyone was so overwhelming. People praying, giving, and sacrificing to serve our family. We are so blessed to be surrounded with such incredible support!
Asa was admitted to the hospital and has an incredible care team. That night was full of doctors and nurses coming in and out of the room checking on Asa. We did not get much sleep. My face/eyes were puffy from crying yet we continued to trust God. We do not know what is coming, but we know who holds our tomorrows.
