Before June 2nd, my biggest health concern was a backache. But everything changed after that day. Now, my NYU medical record app has a catalog of my medical conditions, with feel-good entries like 'debility' and 'adjustment to life-threatening illness' adding a new weight to my reality.

Pancreatic cancer and the strokes have left me grappling with a new set of challenges. It’s hard to see parts of your life slip beyond your control. Yet I am determined to adapt, adjust, and overcome the odds. While illness has brought moments of sadness, it has never succeeded in bringing hopelessness.

I owe a great deal of my resilience to each of you—my family, friends, and colleagues. Your prayers, warm wishes, advice, and unwavering support have meant the world to me. Words cannot adequately express how much stronger I am because of you.

If you’ve reached out and haven’t heard back from me, please know it’s not because I don’t want to connect. The early days after my diagnosis were a whirlwind of shock and physical exhaustion. But I would love to hear from you, so please don’t hesitate to reach out again.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for being a source of strength and hope in this challenging time. I look forward to reconnecting with each of you as I continue to work hard to stay alive.

You’re the most pragmatic, responsible and also neurotic person I know, and I love you for it. You’ve poured all of your spare energy into your family, protecting them as best you can, and being a caretaker, loving father and mentor and friend to them and to people like me. I’m praying that good things can happen to good people like you too. And miracles do happen. And every day is a gift with people you care about.

It is so good to hear from you, Andrew. Even though we haven’t met in person, through Liza and Alyse’s posts I have been able to catch more than a glimpse of your fortitude. Your strength and resilience when the currents are forcing against you is incredible. In the pictures posted, all I see is the twinkle of hope in your eyes and joy in your smile. God has you here for a reason, in the palm of his hand, to impact every single person you encounter. We are continuing to pray for you, Alyse, and your beautiful children during these difficult times. God is still in the business of miracles, and I’m holding Him to it. 🙏🏻

Andrew, your courage is surely an inspiration to all who know you- AND to those of us who just know you through other family members. Perhaps you prove the point that we are all "family" and when one suffers we all suffer. You are an example for us all. May your courage never waver.

Hi Andrew: A neurosurgeon friend told me that attitude is a huge driver of positive outcomes, and I can attest to that. You're an inspiration. Will meet you in person one of these days!

Andrew, we've never met in person but I have come to know you over the years through your precious mother-in-law. Her love and respect for you as a husband to her daughter and father of her grands has spilled over to all of us in her church family in Marietta. I have been and will continue to hold you in prayer before the Lord Jesus. You and your family have been a beautiful witness of faith and courage. May our beautiful Jesus hold you in the palm of His healing hands and bring you through this trial healthy, strong and rejoicing!

Been praying for you and your beautiful family since Ralph told us about your diagnosis. Reading your positive message puts a smile on my face even though I know things aren't as good as they were. Hang in there and know people are praying for you all over the country!

It was SO good to see you at church yesterday! Continuing to lift you up in prayer. Your post is so encouraging to read and a reminder that different seasons in our life will not always be filled with joy but that doesn't mean those seasons have to be hopeless. Love that so much and thinking about it today and the hope that we have in Jesus and how sweet that it.

You’re the most prepared for anything life throws at you- you read up on all the latest medical breakthroughs and you’re the most proactive in keeping up with your health. While watching you through this incredibly difficult time, I’ve seen you take a break from what seemed to be an extraordinarily busy work/life balance, traveling here and there and some late nights, and focus on what matters right now- spending your time with the people you love. Never stop having hope and hold tight to the tiniest of victories, we love you guys!

Andrew, I'm so thankful you've got the best care and the best wife ever (Elyse didn't pay me to write that) and hope that you continue to grow stronger and stronger and beat the EFF out of this thing. You're doing amazing and your outlook, attitude and determination are so admirable. I think about you and your sweet family every day and love you all so much. We're here for whatever you need and rooting for you every step of the way.
