Hi everyone,
This past week was slower for us, which was really nice since no one had any doctor appointments. I always appreciate those rare weeks when things quiet down a little. But this upcoming week will definitely be a busy one as we get ready to head to Pennsylvania.
Devin has been working a lot of overtime lately to save up more money for Abigail’s medical expenses. Before we know it, April will be here, and we’ll be headed to Boston for her big surgery.
This weekend we’re planning to stay home and relax. It’s chilly out and supposed to rain on and off, and I don’t want Abigail to get sick before her procedure at CHOP this Thursday.
As for the week ahead—Monday will be a full day at UVA with several appointments. Tuesday I’ll be running errands and starting to pack for our trip, and then Wednesday we’ll head to Pennsylvania since her OR time will likely be early Thursday morning.
Please pray that the tests they do during the procedure at CHOP on Thursday give us some good information and guidance on the next steps before her airway reconstruction surgery in April. To be completely honest, the reconstruction does scare me because it can come with some risks. But I know if this is what she needs, God will continue to watch over her just as He always has. That’s also why the team at CHOP will be doing the triple scope—to confirm that they agree with the ENT at Boston and that the LTR surgery is truly the right step for Abigail.
On a happy note, Abigail has started talking more lately, which is such a huge milestone for kids with trachs! I honestly didn’t think she’d be able to talk until after her trach was removed, but she’s surprising us every day. She’ll say things like “hi,” “I want this,” “I want Dad,” “I’m done,” and “I want down.” Sometimes she sounds clear, sometimes not so much—but no matter what, hearing her little voice is such a blessing. It’s also helped with her behavior and frustration since she can communicate better now, and that makes all the difference.
We’d really appreciate your prayers this week—for safe travels, for Abigail’s procedure, and for good results and guidance moving forward. Thank you all for your continued love, support, and prayers.
