Yesterday was a busy day for Abigail and our family. In the morning, Abigail went to the OR to have her airway checked one last time before we head home, just to make sure everything is still healing well. Pulmonology also took advantage of her already being in the OR to check her lungs and make sure they are still strong and healthy.
The ENT surgeon said her airway looks really good, and he couldn’t be happier with how well it continues to heal. He would like to see Abigail again in about two months. He is also going to speak with the jaw surgeon to see if they can move her jaw surgery up before August and coordinate it on a day he is already in the OR, so he can quickly check her airway while the jaw surgeon does his part.
The pulmonologist said her lungs look very healthy, and he did not see any obvious inflammation or infection. He did take a sample of her mucus to send off for testing, just to make sure there is no hidden infection.
After leaving the hospital, we all needed some food, so we went to Chick-fil-A for lunch. Then we stopped at a small park we had noticed a few days ago so the kids could enjoy the nice weather and play on the swings. After the park, we got ice cream before heading back to the apartment. Gunnar really loved the park, and Abigail even made a new friend.
Today Abigail has a swallow study to make sure she is not aspirating when she eats. Please pray that she swallows enough during the test and that she does not aspirate.
We have been staying busy with appointments, but we are thankful that we have also been getting a lot of good information and encouraging news from them.
