This past Saturday was a fun and full day for our family. The kids were invited to a birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese, which they were excited about. Before the party, we enjoyed some lunch together and, of course, had ice cream as well.

Yesterday, we went to church, but headed straight home afterward because it was snowing. Even though the day was cut a little short, we were grateful for some family time.

Earlier today, Abigail had an appointment at the University of Virginia with an ENT doctor who specializes primarily in ear reconstruction surgeries and implants. As some of you know, Abigail is considered deaf. In the next year or two, she will need reconstructive surgery on her ears because she was born without ear canals. The medical term for her condition is aural atresia.

Since it has been quite some time since Abigail’s hearing was last evaluated, the doctor would like her to undergo a sedated hearing test. I explained that she will already be sedated next week and again in April for her surgery in Boston. He suggested that Abigail see a highly specialized ENT doctor called a neurotologist at Boston Children’s. A neurotologist focuses on complex ear, hearing, and balance disorders, particularly those involving the inner ear and its connection to the brain. The doctor shared that he would personally reach out to see if Abigail could be seen either next week or in April while we are there.

He also spoke very highly of the surgeon who will be performing Abigail’s airway reconstruction surgery, which was reassuring to hear.

It’s hard to believe that in just one week, Abigail and I will be flying to Boston for her pre-op appointments and procedures. The emotions are a mix of gratitude, nerves, and hope. We are so thankful for every prayer, message, and act of support we’ve received.

We still have a little under $5,000 left to raise. Thank you all, truly, for walking this journey with us. Your kindness, generosity, and prayers mean more than we can ever fully express.

Thank you for sharing about her hearing. I was not aware of that. Incredibly grateful for the ENT you saw who is connecting you with a specialist in Boston! God is so good in working all things together for our good! We will be praying for wisdom and guidance for the doctors and for you and Devon as you navigate how best to help Abigail.🙏🏻🙏🏻
