It’s hard to believe that my dad and I came out to Houston three weeks ago. Unfortunately as soon as we got here I had Covid. Luckily it was mild, but I spent five days in the hospital and it pushed my transplant timeline back by a few weeks. Since then I’ve had appointments to make sure my body is healthy and ready for transplant and yesterday we finally had the exciting appointment where I found out my chemotherapy and transplant schedule!
I’m taking part in a trial for the pre-transplant chemotherapy where the options were a short arm - chemo over 5 days then transplant, or a long arm - spread out over a couple of weeks. I randomized (the computer chose) to the long version, which my doctor was excited about. They think it’s less toxic with faster recovery. I started chemotherapy pills last night and have a long infusion day tomorrow, on the 25th, for 12 hrs. I take the pills throughout the this time and then go inpatient 10/7 for more intense chemotherapy infusions. Then the transplant will be 10/15!
I’m allowed visitors during my time inpatient so come visit if you’re not sick!
We’ve been well taken care of at the Aishel House with weekly Shabbat and holiday meals and we’ve seen some friends and family while remaining careful. Thank you for continuing to check in on Larry and the kids and me and my parents! Your support and love means so much to all of us!
